Restoring the Travertine Floor

The homeowner wanted concerns with the travertine floor addressed and its appearance refreshed. Our floor restoration scope combined cleaning with surface refinement: removing embedded soil first, then working the travertine with Bonastre yellow and green pads before sealing. The project also included targeted grout repairs, helping address details beyond the main stone surface.

Our Restoration Process

We deep cleaned and refined 1,920 square feet of travertine with Bonastre yellow and green pads, then applied water-based penetrating sealer. Targeted grout repairs were also included.

01

Deep Cleaning With Truck-Mounted Extraction

We cleaned the travertine using our truck-mounted system and SX-15 rotary extraction tool. This step flushed loosened soil and cleaning residue from the stone and grout, preparing the floor for the honing stages.

02

Bonastre Yellow-Pad Honing

We worked the travertine with a Bonastre yellow pad to refine the surface and improve its appearance. This stage addressed the stone’s finish after deep cleaning.

03

Bonastre Green-Pad Refinement

The green-pad stage followed the yellow pad to further refine the travertine and develop its sheen. The two-stage process focused on improving the floor’s clarity and overall presentation.

04

Targeted Grout and Baseboard Repairs

The scope included an oyster-grey grout repair and a bone-colored baseboard grout repair. These items specified sanded caulking, with the color to be matched after cleaning.

05

Water-Based Penetrating Sealer

We applied a water-based penetrating sealer after the restoration stages to help resist staining while preserving the stone’s natural appearance. Sealing does not make travertine stain-proof or prevent acid etching.
